In a world where photos are so accessible, I know it can seem insane to drop money on professional photography. But let me tell you, there is value in having a professional capture your craft or space. Having quality images represent your brand elevates your business in a way that amateur photographs simply cannot. High quality photographs attract high quality clients. When you invest in photography for your business, you are investing in your brand and telling people that you are worth what you're asking your clients to pay. It doesn’t have to feel corporate or staged - finding a photographer who is well-aligned to your business and brand makes all the difference.

meet the creative behind lilac in hand

Jessica Russell

I've been a photographer since 2011 and been doing it full-time since 2018.

Like a true creative, I dabble in many things - photography just happens to be the thing that stuck. And if I am honest, it enables me to dip my feet in some of my other passions when I am working with other creatives.

I studied Interior Architecture at the University of South Australia for a couple of years before turning photography into more than just a side-gig. I have always had an interest for interior design and it's still something I am drawn to today. After working in the wedding industry and being frustrated by the same "trends" every weekend, I opened my cake design business, Myrtle and Clay - I found trying something different for a while really concreted my passion in photography which is why I closed it about a year later.

Weddings and babies were my bread and butter for the first ten years, but after having my son and opening my studio in the Adelaide Hills, I find myself bringing more likeminded creatives into the frame.

The Space

Should you need it, the studio is a multifunctional space to accommodate a variety of session types. A space for small businesses and people to showcase their work or themselves. It is warm, earthy and homely, and mimics the signature Lilac in Hand style that you are all familiar with. There is a kitchenette where food can be prepped for flat lays or to store your lunch while we're shooting. Furniture is not fixed and there is an abundance of props and styling boards that I have made and sourced from vintage shops and far off places over the years.

Our home is also right next door and can be used depending on the look you're going for. If you'd like to see more of our home click here.

Investment

A simplified process enables us to tailor the session time to your specific business needs. This means we can easily stick to your budget and you get more out of your time with me.
